Hyundai Motor Company is accelerating its hydrogen business expansion in North America by launching a new hydrogen fuel cell truck and establishing hydrogen fueling hubs.

On the 28th (local time), Hyundai officially introduced The New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck at the “ACT Expo 2025” held at the Anaheim Convention Center in California, which runs until May 1.

The new truck, developed based on feedback from North American customers, underwent rigorous testing to ensure suitability for diverse terrains and climates. Hyundai enhanced the hydrogen fuel cell system to improve vehicle output and equipped the truck with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to boost safety.

During the expo, Hyundai is also showcasing the upgraded fuel cell system and offering test drive programs for local media and industry stakeholders to experience the technology firsthand.

Additionally, Hyundai announced plans to expand its hydrogen operations in North America by launching a new energy business platform called HTWO Energy. The first facility, HTWO Energy Savannah, located in Ellabell, Georgia, will produce and dispense up to 1,200 kilograms of hydrogen per day, with plans to add electric vehicle charging stations in the future.

In 2024, Hyundai deployed 30 XCIENT Fuel Cell Trucks as part of the “California Ports Clean Truck Project,” and is actively building a comprehensive hydrogen commercial mobility value chain in North America, encompassing hydrogen supply, fueling stations, leasing and financing, and maintenance services.

Hyundai is also establishing a green logistics system at its Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) site, where 21 XCIENT Fuel Cell Trucks are currently transporting parts, further expanding the hydrogen ecosystem.

Ken Ramirez, Executive Vice President of Hyundai’s Global Commercial Vehicle and Hydrogen Business Division, stated, “With the enhanced safety and convenience features of The New XCIENT Fuel Cell Truck, we aim to redefine the future of clean logistics in North America. Through HTWO, we will lead the development of the North American hydrogen ecosystem in collaboration with our affiliates and local partners.”

Meanwhile, Hyundai is expanding its global hydrogen business through the HTWO brand, covering hydrogen production, transportation, storage, and utilization. The company plans to accelerate partnerships and investment opportunities by developing platforms like HTWO Energy for integrated hydrogen and electric charging, and HTWO Logistics for eco-friendly logistics systems.
